Is there anything prohibited from the property?

Yes. There are 2 things we don’t allow on the property:

  1. Outside watercraft such as canoes and kayaks or water related items such as lifejackets and paddles. This prohibition is to protect the lake from invasive species such as zebra mussels or Eurasion water-milfoil.

  2. Bottled water!!! Sumac has some of the best water around according to the local Public Health Unit. It is commercially tested every 3 months. Please bring your personal water bottle (we have a few spares if needed) and fill up to your heart’s (and all your other organ’s) content.

Are pets allowed at Sumac?

We do allow guests to bring their dog(s) but there are certain conditions. These conditions come from a concern that future guests may have an allergy to dog hair.

1. Only 1 guest or guest couple may bring their dog(s) during any particular event.

2. Guest(s) will stay in the bedroom on the main level.

3. Sumac will provide the fitted sheet(s) for the bed(s). Guest(s) will need to provide all other bedding (i.e., top sheet, comforter/blanket, pillow).

4. Guest(s) will need to do a thorough cleaning of the bedroom, including vacuuming and wiping down all surfaces where there might be dog hair.

5. Dogs are not permitted on the upper or lower levels.

If a guest prefers not to do the cleaning, Sumac will charge a $50 cleaning fee to ensure that all pet hair has been removed before the next guest(s).

Is internet or cellphone service available?

  • High speed internet with unlimited data is available at the Lodge. However, we encourage guests to disconnect while they are here.

  • Bell and Telus cellphone service is good. Rogers? Not as good. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Are the bugs bad?

Morally, no. Experientially, sometimes.

Black flies show up around mid-May and hang around for about 3 weeks.

Mosquitoes are around from May to September. During the day, they are not too bad. They are worst around sundown.

Deer flies are around from June to the middle of August. They are fast and take chunks of flesh. We don’t like them at all.

We say this not because we don’t want you to come in summer but to let you know what it might be like.

If you are coming in summer, bring your bug repellent.
